She booked me as the dinner sponsor

Entered in Week of November 2, 2026

She picked a pizza place for our first date. Excellent. As a potential boyfriend, my main qualification was enthusiasm for garlic knots. Then she asked the host for our table for twelve. Apparently she'd volunteered to treat ten children from her extended family to dinner, and I was the financial plan. Their parents were dropping them off shortly. She said this like she'd remembered a coupon. I told her I had agreed to dinner for two. She slid me a handwritten list titled “Sponsor benefits.” It included a group thank-you and first choice of leftover crusts. I asked if she'd told the parents she was bringing a stranger. She said, “I described you as community-minded.” I declined the sponsorship. She had to call everyone before they left home, explaining that her “funding partner” had withdrawn. The host quietly moved us to a smaller table. I ordered my pizza to go. She asked whether I could at least cover the balloon deposit. There were going to be balloons with my name on them.
